The primary goal of Americans United is to
educate the American public regarding the importance
of religious liberty through the separation of church and state.

To achieve that goal, the national organization of Americans United for Separation of Church and State rigorously pursues the following objectives.

Publish the award-winning Church & State magazine each month to keep the public up-to-date regarding the latest church-state issues.  From court cases to school board elections, Church & State is the most comprehensive resource for current trends in church/state issues.

Litigate cases before the Supreme Court and lower courts in order to vigorously defend religious Liberty.  The Americans United legal department maintains a vigilant watch over developing cases and works hard to make sure religious freedoms are not infringed.

Organize local chapters and activist networks around the country to defend religious liberty and freedom where it is needed most - in the local community.

Convene regional and national conferences to bring together people from all walks of life - from around the country - to address vital issues, share information, provide training and rejuvenation.  In addition, conduct a special Madison/Jefferson Seminar for Law and Theology Students to increase student understanding and awareness of church/state issues.

Advocate before the U.S. Congress, state legislatures and other governmental bodies and agencies.  The national organization of Americans United also trains chapter leaders and local activists to monitor and provide testimony before legislative bodies and agencies in their own communities.

Promote the separation of church and state in the news media by providing expert commentary on breaking religious liberty developments.

Individuals who become members of Americans United join with thousands of people throughout this country who view religious liberty as the founding principle upon which our democracy rests!  A single voice is multiplied as Americans United works on the important issue of Separation of Church and State.  Members of Americans United receive a subscription to Church & State magazine, access to a national and grassroots network of church/state activists and the ability to have their voices heard in the national struggle for religious Freedom.
